(Program Reviews - Side by Side Comparison - Website Reviews)
Rated: January 2012- The Hilton HHonors website features its logo and tagline, "Experiences Worth Sharing" superimposed over a prominent picture of a father and daughter sharing an experience of overlooking a city at dusk from a glass-enclosed ferris wheel. A link to the program's latest promotion is located at the bottom of the photograph. To the right are links to view your current reservations or to search for a hotel.
The main navigation menu is located at the top of the page and there are five menu choices: About HHonors, Points, Rewards, MyWay Specials and Join. In a smaller point size and less noticeable are links to Reservations, Meetings, Social Gatherings and My Favorite Hotels. Near the bottom of the page are key facts about the program, including the number of Hilton brands (there are 10) and properties where members can redeem points (3,600 hotels and resorts in 82 countries).
A rotating series of boxes is located at the bottom of the page with links to more information, such as how to donate points, join the program, purchase HHonors gift cards and the latest news. While this section adds some unnecessary busyness to an otherwise clean and uncluttered site, it does draw your attention to these aspects of the program.
Hilton has a new search and reservation widget for paid and award stays. As you start to type in your destination, the booking tool will guess your city and display a dropdown menu of choices. For example, type New and the first choice on the list is New York, NY, followed by New Delhi. You can check flexible dates to view award availability for two weeks at a time at each hotel property available at your destination. Select the Gallery view to view properties with larger photos or the map view to view the hotels situated on a map. You can also refine your search and limit choices according to the hotel's distance from popular landmarks and attractions, amenities and hotel brands.
Hilton also offers online check-in and frequent travelers who are familiar with a particular hotel's layout or will be arriving late like this option because they can select a room before arriving at the hotel.
The FAQ and Terms & Conditions links are both buried at the very bottom of the page. They aren't difficult to find, but we'd like to see these items placed more conspicuously at the top of the page. The Terms & Conditions isn't a compelling read, but it's important information for members to know and the FAQ offers succinct answers to about 30 questions. Both of these links can also be found on your My Account page, but again, are listed at the bottom.
Members can purchase, exchange and redeem points online and can change their earning preference at any time by logging into their account. You can also view your HHonors activity, reservations, account summary, report a missing stay and update your profile online.
The layout of the HHonors website is logical, which makes navigation effortless. We also like the new award search tool that allows members to view award availability over a two-week period.
