Guest Recognition

Omni Hotels & Resorts dates back to 1958 when the Dunfey family founded a hospitality company which became Dunfey Hotels Corp. When the Dunfey Hotels Corp. acquired Omni International Hotels in 1983, it changed the name of its upscale hotel group to Omni Hotels.

Omni Hotels is a small luxury hotel group that operates 50 hotels in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. By contrast, Hilton claims over 500 hotels worldwide and Marriott has over 3,700 properties. What the company lacks in size, it makes up for in amenities. Omni properties feature four-diamond services, gourmet restaurants, free WiFi and high-speed Internet access, in-room treadmills in Get Fit Rooms, on-site business and fitness centers and complimentary guest robes.

Omni Hotels' Select Guest program launched in 1989 and prides itself on being the first hotel loyalty program based on guest recognition and benefits instead of points. Select Guest introduced additional benefits to the program in 2009, including the ability to earn free nights.



Select Guest members can earn free nights for stays. Stay 20 nights and you will automatically receive a free night that can be used for a future stay at any time over the next year (subject to availability and blackout dates). Until 2013, members needed only 10 nights to earn a free night and had up to two years to use their free night credit.

Omni Select Guest no longer offers frequent flyer miles when staying at Omni Hotels. Omni previously partnered with 15 frequent flyer programs including American, United, British Airways and others as well as Amtrak but the ability to earn 500 miles or points for stays was eliminated in 2012.

Select Guest offers member perks from the very beginning of joining the program and travelers with plans to stay at any Omni Hotel should sign up for the program to take advantage of entry-level benefits.

Entry-level Gold Select Guest requires membership only and offers membership benefits. There are no stay requirements for Gold members, who can expect all of their personal preferences to be recognized, including room type, pillow type and other details personalized to meet specific requests. Gold members also receive complimentary WiFi, access to an exclusive Select Guest reservation number, express check-in and express checkout, complimentary bottled water on night of arrival, nightly turndown service and additional amenities such as complimentary morning beverage service delivered to the guest room, access to a Loyalty Ambassador who will help take care of any last-minute details and customize your stay and your choice of a newspaper delivered each morning. Additional benefits include eco-friendly housekeeping options, complimentary ironing of two items and shoe shine.

Omni also offers an Omni Sensational Kids program, designed to meet the needs of those traveling with children. The program features kid-minded amenities including a backpack full of goodies at check-in for each young guest including a discovery map, crayons, magnifying glass, hacky-sack, twizzlers and other fun items. Milk and cookies are also delivered to their guest room on their first night. Families can also borrow a backpack filled with age-appropriate toys, games and books from the front desk. Parents are provided with a list of local top family attractions, emergency numbers and a safety/first aid kit that includes a night light and outlet covers. The Omni website also features kid-friendly content.

Guests can request a complimentary Get Fit Kit that contains two-pound weights, a floor mat, stretch cords, a mini AM/FM headset and a bottle of water. The Omni Stay Well Program, which offers healthy options including sleep kits, specialty pillows and fitness classes such as yoga or Pilates, was originally offered only to elite members but as of 2013, has been extended to all tier levels.



Free nights are the only awards possible for Select Guest members, available after staying 20 nights. Meeting planners have access to a separate program called Select Rewards, which allows meeting planners to earn gift cards, account credits or the option to make a charitable donation when reaching spend thresholds for booking qualified meetings at Omni Hotels & Resorts, starting at $5,000. For example, for guest room revenue between $5,000 and $9,999, meeting planners can receive a $125 Omni Hotels & Resorts gift card, $100 American Express gift card, $100 charitable donation or $100 account credit.



Omni Hotels is a member of The Global Hotel Alliance, which represents 14 independent four- and five-star hotel groups around the world. Other member hotel groups include Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas, The Doyle Collection, First Hotels, Kempinski Hotels, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, Lungarno Collection, Marco Polo Hotels, Mokara Hotels & Spas, Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts, PARKROYAL Hotels & Resorts, Shaza Hotels, Tangram Hotels and Tivoli Hotels and Resorts. While members of participating hotels do not have the ability to earn and redeem points across the network, Global Hotel Alliance member brands have made a commitment to deliver special benefits and VIP treatment to the members of each other's loyalty programs. Select Guest members can receive recognition and special perks at many worldwide luxury properties, including free WiFi and customized room preferences.

Omni partners with a large number of national charities through the Select Rewards program. For meetings that run at least $25,000 in guest room spend, event planners can choose to make a $500 cash donation to charities such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity or Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Omni Select Guest does not offer its own co-branded credit card and the program does not partner with any airlines or other travel-related companies.



Stays at Omni and GHA hotels count towards elite status qualification. After staying 10 nights, members attain Platinum level status. In addition to Gold level benefits, Platinum level members receive guaranteed room availability 24 hours before arrival, exclusive concierge services, administrative business services, room upgrades at check-in based on availability, daily bottled water, 3pm late checkout, early check-in and a local welcome amenity. When staying at GHA properties, Platinum members also receive a GHA Discovery local experience, such as a private tour of a chocolatier in Belgium or enjoying a wee pint of Guinness at Dublin's oldest pub.

Members staying 30 nights or more will be upgraded to the highest Black level. Black level members receive unlimited complimentary pressing of clothing, guaranteed room availability until 4pm on the day of arrival, room upgrade at check-in when available, suite upgrades on free night awards, 9am check in and 6pm late checkout, complimentary alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice upon arrival and a complimentary chef-inspired local welcome amenity.

New for 2013, both elite status levels earn double credits toward free nights.



Select Guest members will be automatically renewed in the program as long as they stay once at Omni Hotels in the previous 24-month period. Free night certificates are subject to blackout dates and expire one year after they are earned. Blackout dates vary by hotel property and can be found online. Free nights are not transferable.

Free nights apply to room rate only and do not include taxes, fees and other charges. Only individual registered paying guests are eligible for free night benefits. If you book and pay for more than one room, you will receive free night credits for a maximum of two rooms. Any no-show or cancellation made outside the cancellation policy window will result in the member forfeiting their free night certificate.



The Omni Hotels Select Guest customer service center can be accessed between the hours of 6am and 12am CT. Be sure to use the Select Guest number when calling Omni Hotels. Both the general reservation line and Select Guest numbers will direct you to Omni Hotels reservations but the customer representative who answered the phone when we dialed said that calls made using the Select Guest phone number will take priority over calls made by guests calling Omni Hotels reservations.

You can also send an email directly to the program at selectguest@omnihotels.com or use the contact form on Omni's website to send your questions or concerns and your inquiry will be directed to Select Guest. The program is also quick to respond to comments made in social media channels and has an active presence on Twitter and Facebook. We have yet to receive a complaint from any Select Guest member about customer support. The service center is quick to respond both on the phone and via email. Our phone call was answered within seconds of calling and we received an email response within 24 hours.



Omni's website is simple with a clean, uncomplicated layout and you'll find everything you need to know about the program. Online enrollment is available and be prepared to spend a little time thinking about your preferences. Do you prefer a foam or feather pillow? Would you like a corner room or a room on a high or low floor? Would you like your bed linens and towels changed daily or only when requested? You can also update or revise your profile after registration online if you would like to change any of your preferences. Free night stays can only be redeemed over the phone but the customer service representative we talked to said that online redemption would be available soon.

Select Guest focuses on customer service and member perks and it is service that ultimately drives customer loyalty. Although Omni is a comparatively small program, it seems to be providing its members with what they want. The program is straightforward and members automatically receive a free night in their account for every 20 nights. Black-level elite members receive suite upgrades on award nights and all members receive a free morning beverage and newspaper, complimentary WiFi and complimentary ironing of two items, a nice feature if you need to smarten up for a meeting or presentation.

The program ended its partnerships with airlines and members can no longer choose to earn miles instead of free nights for hotel stays. Most programs allow members to redeem free nights for family or friends but free night awards with Omni Select Guest are not transferable to anyone else. For members who are primarily interested in earning points to redeem for free nights or other awards, Select Guest members can only earn a free night for every 20 nights and there are no alternative redemption options. Earning free nights by earning points through credit cards and other partners is not offered. The program rarely offers bonus promotions where members can earn free nights at a faster pace than usual. The recent change from 10 nights to 20 nights to earn a free night was a big devaluation of the program for non-elite members. We would also like to see a wider variety of partners.
